Selecting a TV Mount
Looking for a plasma or LCD TV mount? There are numerous TV mounts available from many different vendors. I’m going to explain the basic types and you can decide what will work best for you.
If you’re still shopping for an LCD TV, make sure that the TV you’re looking at can be wall mounted. Not all of them have the capability. Secondly, when you choose your bracket, check the weight rating. Don’t forget to include the weight of the bracket too. If the bracket you’re looking at is rated at 40 pounds, that means the weight of the TV plus the weight of the bracket cannot exceed 40 pounds.

The least expensive option is a fixed or low-profile mount bracket. This kind pretty much works like hanging a picture. They are very easy to install but you cannot adjust them. If you want to fix a cable on the TV, you will need to take the TV off the wall first. This probably means you’re going to need 2 people every time you need to do this. If you like the look of the TV flush against the wall, then this is probably your best option. |

Tilt TV mounts are comparable in price to a fixed mount. They are pretty much equivalent as far as ease of install to a fixed mount. They have the advantage that you can tilt the TV a little bit to adjust the viewing angle. It also allows you a little bit more flexibility if you need to get at a cable. |

Tilt & Swivel or Full Motion Wall Mounts Tilt & swivel TV mounts are the next step up from just the tilt mounts. They not only allow you to tilt the TV for a better angle, but you can also move the TV away from the wall to get a better view from a different part of the room. Because these have more hardware behind the TV, they will stick out about 3 to 4 inches from the wall. They also give you very easy access to the back of the TV to make cable changes. |
If you’re also in the market for an LCD television, Abe’s of Maine is currently offering a FREE wall mount with the purchase of any television.
